b-activists: Immigrant Archive Project wants to preseve Latino stories and wants YOURS

One of the difficult parts about doing work in immigration is dealing with many myths that exist about the immigration process, and even about American history. The Immigrant Archive Project wants your story to help paint an accurate picture of immigrant America, and to create and preserve its rich history by giving immigrants a voice with which to tell it themselves. Who better to tell us about immigrant history than the very people who are making it?
Learn how to share your story after the jump:
The Immigrant Archive Project is an independent national initiative created to preserve the biographies of the Latino-American immigrant population. They accomplish this by recording, in their own words, the intimate stories of Latino immigrants of all nations. The content of these interviews is shared with listeners via radio, internet, and traveling educational as well as art installations. Through this initiative they aim to preserve the struggles and accomplishments of America’s diverse Latino immigrant population so that future generations may learn from their experience.
Much of their work is done through Ambassadors, volunteers who inform their local communities about the project and conduct actual interviews among their family and friends. They also work closely with artists of all kinds to bring the immigrant experience to people everywhere.
The Archive Project will be video taping testimonials in Washington, DC on Sept. 2, 3, and 4. Producers are looking for Latino immigrants of all nations who would like to share their personal experiences. You can contact IAP at 301-367-5002 or via email at bgzamora@gmail.com for details. Don’t miss this chance to have your story become a recorded part of American history!
