b-activists: This Saturday in NYC bring your laundry and learn about homelessness
We just heard about a new ongoing multimedia documentary project called Housing is a Human Right: Stories from the Struggle for Home -that is using images and sound to explore the concept of home and community, and portray ongoing efforts to maintain or obtain affordable housing in NYC.
So far HHR has recorded dozens of stories and they are sharing some of these stories as part of The Laundromat Project. This month, Laundromat Create Change Artist-in-Residence Michael Premo and former StoryCorps facilitator Rachel Falcone will present photographs, testimonies and memories of home remixed with the help of turn-tablist DJ Oja Vincent in Brooklyn.
There will be a kick-off event at SUPERFRONT on October 17 and then you will be able to hear these stories at Wash and Play Lotto Laundromat from October 27 - November 2. So bring your laundry and listen!
