b-the change: Make a film about empowering women and get on the front page of YouTube
Have you ever wondered how you can get involved in the filmmaking side of the work we do to promote women’s rights? Well this month, you can show us your support by becoming a YouTube video volunteer and making a short film about just that!
When we told you about this awesome program earlier this year, Dr. Phil introduced you to how it works. Each month, YouTube highlights a pressing cause, creates a list of nonprofit organizations that work for that cause, and calls on users (you!) to make short videos (under 3 minutes) about the organization of their choice. This month, in honor of mother’s day, the video volunteers program teamed up with legendary designer, Diane von Furstenberg and Vital Voices to support organizations that work towards the empowerment of women, giving you the opportunity to make a film honoring the work done to uplift women’s rights around the world.
It’s simple. Choose an organization that works for women’s rights (either from the list that You Tube has compiled, or one that you have in mind), make a short promotional video about the amazing work they do, and upload it onto the You Tube video volunteers website. (Just an FYI – Breakthrough is listed on that list.) At the end of the month, the top 3 videos will be featured on the You Tube homepage for everyone to watch!
The deadline for submissions is May 26th so choose an organization, pick up that point-n-shoot/handycam/flip, and get cracking!
See what fashion icon Diane von Furstenberg has to say about this and get inspired!
