End of summer playlist: Music videos about women’s rights that stir emotion and rock

Breakthrough is ringing out the end of the summer with our oldies but goodies. If you’re not on the beach, barbecuing, or on a blanket at the park, we hope you’re spending it with us!

1. Mann Ke Manjeere

Breakthrough started with a music video–Mann ke Manjeeré: about a fearless woman (actress Mita Vasisht) who leaves an abusive marriage and works as a truck driver to support and empower herself and her daughter. Now, it’s an MTV nominated cult-classic empowering women across the globe. (It’s catchy too.)

2. Maati

“Maati” was part of our What Kind of Man are You? campaign, that for the first time directly asked men to wear condoms to protect their wives from infection. Actors Mandira Bedi and Samir Soni portrayed a married couple who discover that HIV/AIDS is not that far from home.

3. Babul

A stirring music video that explores the reality of domestic violence through the eyes of a young girl.
