Take the poll: What do you think about Roman Polanski? (Jewel thinks he’s in the wrong)

As an org that works on women’s rights issues, we want to know in the right-hand column of the page what you think about the recent arrest of filmmaker Roman Polanski. If you didn’t know, he was picked up in Switzerland for a allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl 30 years ago in Los Angeles. After the incident happened he fled the U.S. and hasn’t returned since.

Now that he’s been nabbed it has been an absolute uproar -some thing he should pay, some think the U.S. authorities should forget about it — including the woman who was involved. Personally, I’m at the belief that if you did the crime where you violate another - you should do the time.

Here’s what other folks are saying/thinking:

France’s Foreign Minister has appealed to Hillary Clinton for the release of Polanski.

Oh Poland has too.

There’s a bit of fear of what this means in terms of French/U.S. relations.

Celebs like Woody Allen and Scorsese have signed a petition to ask for his release. Jewel tweets that she’s not on board.

  RAPE is wrong. But it has been how many years and the victim herself has said drop the case. So instead of lingering on things forever, maybe there are other things to take care of.

  This guy is old, he’s at the last leg of his life, and his life has been shitty. Maybe he needs counselling and need to put in hours of helping rape victims or something.

  We are horrible as a species if we find joy in punishing people and holding grudges.

  Hey Priyanka thanks for posting… it definitely seems like a lot of people want him released, but I still can’t let me own beliefs go! Thanks for commenting. Do tell others about the poll- we really want to see what more people are feeling.

  Michael Jackson got away with fondling little boys, just paid off there family’s
  Will the norm for people with money or fame is to go free or pay there way out.
  If I did something like this, I would be in the jail and know one would care.

  rape is too serious of a crime resulting in mental issues such as PDS and other serious mental and social anamolies. there are too many people doing serious time for serious crimes similar to Polanski and what do they get, a loss of their life and a lifetime of being victimized my the American legal system. just because a few movies are recorded doesn’t mean you are above the law. he needs to do the time, plus face charges for fleeing the country.
